Plaine Tonique signature lighting

A bespoke luminaire, with round forms and pure lines, creates softly lit spaces

The Plaine Tonique camp site in Malafretaz is a family-friendly resort where families can relax and enjoy a change of scenery. It is popular with tourists thanks to its beach, water park and wide range of accommodation in the heart of nature.

The camp site reopened in the summer of 2022 following a major refurbishment to:

  • become the main tourist resort in the Ain department;
  • adapt the site to be more ecological;
  • connect more with the natural environment.

The resort chose the colour red for its furniture, signage and logo to reflect the dynamic nature of its leisure and sports facilities and to create a strong identity.

Axe Saône, was commissioned to project manage the redevelopment of the site’s outdoor areas and worked with the contracting authority and the management of Plaine Tonique. The objectives were to enhance the natural environment, redevelop the entrance to the resort and the area around the main beach, plant more vegetation, renovate the facilities, create a dance area and a lifeguard room.

Lighting design to “Suspend time”

Gaëtan Cacace, lighting designer at Axe Saône, designed an original luminaire to light up the paths in the camp site and accompany visitors on their journeys. His idea was to create a lighting ambiance at night that would encourage campers to move around and enjoy all the leisure activities on offer. He was inspired by traditional camping lamps that can be moved around as you please. This design, which came to life in Gaëtan Cacace's mind, is unique in public lighting. He therefore called on the expertise of our Schréder STUDIO team to develop this bespoke luminaire... the NOMADE.

I wanted to create an object that would suspend time and pay homage to the unforgettable and exceptional evenings that can be experienced in bivouacs. I was guided in my design by the image of a light that accompanies visitors as they move. A light that you want to pick up, move around, take with you and hang wherever you want.

From vision to reality

To bring this concept to life, our Schréder SIGNATURE team used an innovative industrial process: rotational moulding. We drew on the expertise of a French company specialising in this technique to create the rounded cylindrical-conical shape of the luminaire.

The bespoke NOMADE luminaire provides both functional and atmospheric lighting to ensure the comfort and safety of tourists. Thanks to its internal diffuser, it delivers a soft, warm light reminiscent of the intimate atmosphere of bivouacs. It enables guests to safely move around the resort while enhancing the experience.

To respect the designer's idea, our team created a metal handle to hang the lamp. No cables are visible, in keeping with the luminaire's sober design. A red metal structure, reminiscent of the metalwork throughout the Plaine Tonique resort, accentuates the luminaire’s round shape. NOMADE has become an integral part of the landscape.

Axe Saône covered the metal mast with a wooden panel to blend in with the surroundings.

A safe, reassuring and stylish environment

The SHUFFLE column was chosen to light the car parks leading to the leisure centre. A total of 36 SHUFFLE have been installed, providing high-quality, glare-free lighting with low energy consumption. They ensure a high level of visual comfort for people going to and from the centre.

Our Schréder SIGNATURE team was delighted to work on this project, turning a creative idea into a bespoke luminaire. The NOMADE meets the customer's expectations and has become a distinctive and striking feature of the Plaine Tonique landscape.
