Enhancing the public realm at the Samaritaine

This famous slogan is more relevant than ever, as you can now find Schréder luminaires there, too.

After sixteen years of closure, this Parisian gem, situated between the Right Bank and the Left Bank, has regained its former splendour. Its exposed metal façades, majestic glass roofs and Art Nouveau ceramics are all listed as Historic Monuments, and they shine once more in the heart of the capital.

A symbol of Paris’s vibrant retail scene, this iconic venue now perfectly balances heritage with modernity.
 

Lighting that enhances heritage and identity

As part of the regeneration of the public spaces around the department store, the urban development project aimed to return the area to pedestrians and promote soft mobility.

The redesigned, expanded forecourt invites visitors to linger and showcases the site’s heritage architecture, enhancing its visual identity and economic appeal.
 

A collaborative effort combining creative vision and industrial expertise

In collaboration with the lighting design agency Les Éclaireurs, we developed a bespoke solution born from an ongoing dialogue between their creative vision and our technical expertise to support the site’s regeneration.

Les Éclaireurs selected the POSS luminaire for its discretion, performance and modularity. Beyond the luminaire itself, they brought a distinct identity to the project by collaborating with us to design the custom SAMAR console.

Our Schréder STUDIO team then engineered and manufactured this bespoke piece, specifically conceived to blend seamlessly with the building’s architectural lines.

This project exemplifies the potential of a collaboration between creative designers and industrial experts, resulting in lighting that honours the site's history with a contemporary touch.

When paired with the SAMAR console, the POSS luminaire provides soft, uniform lighting to ensure safety and visual comfort while enhancing heritage sites.

The SAMAR range is available in single, double or triple-pole configurations , offering a modular system with a contemporary design suited for a variety of urban spaces.

The precise light output minimises light spill and protects vegetation, reflecting a responsible, sustainable approach.

The colour scheme, inspired by the historic yellow and grey hues of La Samaritaine, highlights Paris’s architectural heritage while reinforcing the site's unique identity.
