Danie Craven Rugby C-Field
OMNISTAR provides an energy-efficient rugby lighting solution that ensures perfect visibility on the field for the players
The Stellenbosch Rugby Football Club, which was founded in 1875, is the second oldest rugby club in South Africa. The club’s headquarters are based in the Danie Craven Stadium at Coetzenburg in Stellenbosch.
Modern LED rugby lighting
In 2018, the club decided to light the rugby C-Field which is used for training purposes. The facility manager wanted to implement the first LED installation on a campus of this size to evaluate the quality of light and reduce energy costs.
The OMNISTAR was the preferred LED luminaire as it offers a real alternative to luminaires equipped with high-power traditional light sources; low energy consumption, improved visibility with a colour temperature close to daylight, limited maintenance, longer life, and instant switch on/off.
The field is illuminated by the OMNISTAR LED floodlights, installed on 35m high masts, in preference to a high intensity discharge (HID) 1kW metal-halide floodlight. The field has an average horizontal illuminance of 350 lux.
Better lighting, better training, better neighbours
The bright, glare-free light enhances the athletic environment and ensures that the players can fully concentrate on listening to the coach and improving their playing skills during those long winter nights.
The OMNISTAR can be switched on just as training starts so there no need to hang around in the dark waiting on them to heat up, saving time, energy and money.
Equally the OMNISTAR eliminates light spill so the club can maintain its good relationship with the neighbouring community.
The new lighting is definitely a winning solution for all.
