Schréder commits to joining the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions
For over a century, Schréder has been active in public lighting, an industry that has a life-changing impact on citizens, enhancing safety, well-being and sustainability in public spaces. Environmentally, economically, and socially sustainable lighting has always been part of our DNA. We have continually improved the energy efficiency of our products and even launched our own Circle Light Label in the absence of an industry standard, to enable customers to develop a more circular economy.
Conscious of our responsibility to combat climate change, we consolidated our initiatives in our “Together for Our Future” programme in 2019. This strategy enables us to measure the CO2 footprint of our activity and features specific actions aimed at reducing our own and our customers’ greenhouse gas emissions.
Today, faced with the urgency of action for climate change, we want to go further. We are pleased to announce that we have committed to set near-term company-wide emission reductions with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
The SBTi is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050.(*)
This commitment is a key milestone in a longer journey as we will submit our emissions reduction target to the SBTi for validation in the coming weeks.
Committing to join the SBTi is yet another important milestone in our sustainability strategy. We have chosen this initiative to increase the transparency of our operations and ensure that our own goals are in line with international targets and will truly make a difference.
