Shining a light on Suzon on International Women's Day
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
To mark this special day, we are shining a light on Suzon Michel, a young, internationally minded go-getter who joined the Schréder Group in October 2019 after an 8-month student placement.
Suzon feels strongly about leaving the world a better place for future generations and couldn’t resist working on Schréder’s strategy to build a future of well-being for people, nature, and the planet.
What motivated you to join Schréder?
I wanted to work for a company that had a positive impact on the world. While Schréder has always been committed to developing lighting solutions that minimise energy and light pollution, their new sustainability strategy is bringing another dimension to the company vision.
It is a great project based on the UN Sustainability Development Goals (SGDs) and will really help the company make a real difference.
What aspect of your job brings the most satisfaction, in your daily routine?
The generosity of my colleagues. It is a voluntary programme so most of the people are doing it in addition to their regular work. They see this project as a great opportunity for the company and are happy to be part of it. Even though it was only launched internally 2 months ago, I can already see my colleagues adapting their habits.
Do you think there's equality between men and women in your workplace?
Like in most tech and engineering companies, there are more men than women. However, our CEO is aware of the issue and the Human Resources are taking actions to reduce this gender gap and also ensure that women and men in the same positions have a more equitable future.
Do you think it's important to have an International Women's Day?
Yes, it is important and will continue to be so until the day women and men are truly equal. For now, I believe that putting the focus on this issue once a year is a worthy cause.
Is there a particular female figure that inspires you?
Plenty, but on a day like this, Simone Veils is the first one that pops into my mind. She was a great advocate for women’s rights.
